A Sibford School girl has beaten tough competition to gain a place with the RFU Academy

Amy Bothwell, a pupil at Sibford School in Oxfordshire, has been selected for the RFU’s South West Junior Academy programme 2017.

The 15-year-old, was picked from a pool of 80 girls put forward by the counties within the South West Division including Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire, Devon, Cornwall, Hampshire, Gloucestershire and Somerset.

She has already attended her first Junior Academy Training Camp in Bovington, Wareham, and is due to compete in her first match for the Academy in April when she will face Birmingham Exiles.

Amy’s mum Emma said: “This is the next step up from playing County Rugby and offers the chance for Amy to become involved in divisional rugby representing the South West.”

Sibford School Head, Toby Spence, added: “We are delighted that Amy has been selected for this opportunity and wish her all the very best.”
