Lord Stuart Rose - Champion of the 'In' Campaign and the Old Boy of Bootham School, York

Lord Stuart Rose, who leads the official campaign to keep Britain in Europe, was educated at Bootham School in York.  The well regarded independent school, known for its Quaker heritage and values, has often been referred to by Lord Rose as having had a strong influence on his own outlook on life.  Stuart Rose attended Bootham School in the 1960’s.

Just under a year ago, one of Leighton Park School’s current parents, an award-winning furniture designer, approached the Headmaster, Nigel Williams, offering to design and build a piece of furniture that not only celebrated the 125th anniversary of the school but also evoked the Quaker values upon which the school was founded.

Bootham School Filmakers receive a schools' Oscar

Bootham School filmmakers were highly honoured to receive an international schools’ film festival ‘Oscar’ statuette, awarded to them by The Bridge Film Festival, a Quaker film festival run in partnership with schools across the UK and the USA.The Years 11, 12 and 13 filmmaking group were set the task to create an anti-bullying video, targeting cyber bullying in particular.

Bootham students learn lessons from Award Winning Author

Author, Phil Earle, took Bootham School students through their paces in the art of writing novels. The award winning author is well known in the children’s literature circuit, with works including ‘Being Billy’; set in a children’s care home, it won the ‘Amazing Book Award’. Other titles include ‘Heroic’ which was shortlisted for the Booktrust Award.

Sibford students band together to show support

Pupils at Sibford School near Banbury, Oxfordshire, marked the last day of term by paying to wear bandanas in a bid to raise funds for cancer charities.The action was in support of Sixth Form student, Angus Oakey, who is currently undergoing treatment for leukaemia at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.Thomas Meredith, a fellow Sixth Form student at the Quaker School, said: “We do lots of things to raise money for charity but this was different.
